Cade and Noni's Fishing Trip

Cade wanted to go fishing and it was a day just made for bobber fishing. With Noni and Cade in the boat we floated around on Trout lake and did catch some fish. It was a little hard setting the hook with bobbers with the slip knot set @ 20 feet. We did manage to land a nice Walleye and a bass, but we missed at least a half dozen other bites that we had. Cade had fun catching and Noni enjoyed the sun.

A good time was had by all.

Cade thought it was great that he could hold the bass by the lips and not get cut up by his teeth. Cool Cade.

Fishing on Eagle Lake Again

A couple weeks ago I spent time fishing with an old friend. Al and I have fished on Eagle lake years before but this was the first time I was ever invited to his cabin or cottage as the Canadians call lake places. The weather was spectacular as you can see from the pictures. Al and I fished hard for lake trout but as all the resorts say on the lake the fishing is tough in the summer. It was! For the many hours spent looking for the trout we never had a bite. The walleyes were a little more cooperative, but most were too large to keep.

Thanks Al for the invite and the lesson in blueberry picking it was a very relaxing fun trip.

The morning relaxing view from the deck swing. I guess if "PEACEFUL" was a picture this would be it!!

Bella's Big Fish Day

Jackie and I brought granddaughter Bella back to Minnesota to attend her uncle David's basketball camp in Grand Rapids. I promised her that I would take her fishing and told her we would catch some real fish. She has a pond near her house in Novi, MI where she spends hours catching 6" perch and sunnies being satisfied that they will bite on the hotdog she uses for bait. We went fishing on Pokegama Lake Wednesday afternoon and all we could catch were small perch. We were a little disappointed especially being it was a cloudy cool...no...cold afternoon of boating.

Hoping yesterday was going to be different I planned to take her out on Trout Lake and a chance for some big walleyes. The pre-trip events of the day were a nightmare and lets just say I ended up picking up Bella late and Zach had business which made us very late to get onto the water. I asked Bella if she was too tired to go fishing, and got a big no I want to catch fish!! On our first trip out on the lake we set up and made 3 casts and I got a call from David telling us there was a spotted tornado north of us and it would be passing by in 10 minutes. Up came the lines and Zach made a warp speed bee-line to the landing. I drove the boat onto the trailer and got to ride back to his house sitting in the boat doing 60MPH. We waited till the storm passed and I ask if we should go home. Bella said lets go fishing!

We found a spot with fish and Bella showed us how to catch nice walleyes, after she landed her fish before we had any bites Zach said he may have her in the boat for the next tournament and maybe I should go golfing! As we tried to make 1 more pass at the fish we saw that another storm was heading for us and blocking our return to the landing so we found shelter at a campground under a shelter. We stood watching the downpour for about an hour before we raced back to the landing between storms. I guess everyone who has tried fishing in June knows that if your going fishing this year bring your rain gear because your going to get wet. It has rained almost everyday this June!!

I hope you enjoy the pictures that follow as much as Bella did catching these fish. I hope you have a opportunity to get out fishing but remember bring your rain gear or your going to get wet this year if you don't.

Good fishing,

Trout Lake is where Zach and I like to bring people out to see big walleyes, and it was a joy to bring my granddaughter Bella out last night. She is very a patient fisherman as she can spend hours on the little pond by her house catching 6" perch and sunnies.

As Bella will tell you she is a fish magnet, she had 3 bites and 2 fish in the boat before Z and I had a bite! It was great to get her out and watch her land these fish.

City Auto Glass Walleye Classic

Wednesday after Zach and I traveled to Lake Vermillion to prefish for the City Auto Glass walleye tournament. We fished many parts of the lake for 3 days and found only one spot that produced aggressive fish. Zach found a scattered rock field in Pike Bay with his Humminbird graph's sidefinder display. Along with being able to see the rocks on several passes we saw fish on or around the rocks. Over the three days of prefishing we took 30-40 fish off this one spot. Friday afternoon we thought there would not be enough fish left there to enter to tournament, but when we went to the sign-up and heard all the horror stories of teams really not finding active fish we decided to enter. GREAT CHOICE because we caught a total of 38 fish on that spot for the tournament on Saturday. We actually left to return to the weigh-in an hour early because we ran out of bait. On the way in we were confident that we had enough fish to get into the money. When we weighed in there were only 3 other teams that had a bag of 6 fish and we had a pound on those teams. With a dozen boats left to come in we decided to take a walk we were too nervous to watch. Returning we were still in first place with the second place team only .03 pound behind us and 4 boats to still weigh. To make this long story shorter ....WE won and made a check of $10,500 and an invite to AIM year end championship on Big Winnie.

Thanks to Zach and his Humminbird Graph for giving us a chance to find the fish needed to win the tournament!!

Zach and me were presented with our first place plaques and of course a check for $10,000 from the City Auto Glass walleye Classic.

OPENER 2010

Sorry for the late posting of the opener pictures but its been a busy 2 weeks. The fishing this year was slow and spotty but when we talked to other groups we did alright. With groups fishing in waders and and 3 boats fishing Little and Big Winnie we probably caught 50+ walleyes in 2 days. Bill and Bruce caught 3 of the most impressive fish wader fishing in Little Winnie catching three 26"+ walleyes Sunday afternoon. That evening David and his boat caught 18 walleyes on little Winnie. After celebrating the catch Wheeta (I still really don't know how to spell your last name) treated the campfire group to a late night laugh fest!! He had all of us laughing for 2 hours straight and and we went to bed with sore bellies from laughing too much. WTG Frankie you are a true comedian of the camp fire crew. On asking if all 12 will return next year all will return and we may grow to use the resorts last available cabin. Soon the resort will be all ours for the opener...OMG watch out Little Winnie Resort!!

What will 2011 bring?

Bruce and Bill are holding 3 very nice walleyes caught on Sunday...WTG Bill!!

Bruce and Bill decided to use their superior intellect and bring chairs into the lake to fish the very low waters of Little Winnie. Also Bill was recovering from an extended stay in the hospital and his stamina for standing was not there.

I guess this is fishing opener 2010 version of "Grumpy Old Men".

Bill is fishing hard and enjoying it. Bruce on the other hand decided to test to water temperature the hard way. It only took 20 minutes for his feet to go numb!!

The youngsters fishing next to us took the lead of Bill and Bruce and decided to relax to fish and hold their spots in the water.

On Sunday Bill caught these 26"+ walleye on consecutive casts on Little Winnie.
